- We meet at 7.30pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the Methodist Church Hall in Mays Lane, Stubbington. (Except for July when we will be at the Wheelhouse in Salterns Road)
- Ours is a fairly small group of almost 40 members (and growing), about a dozen of whom are founder members from 1983! A friendly bunch, we give a warm welcome to visitors, and have an interesting and varied programme each year.
- Most months we have a competition relating to our speaker’s subject – and a regular “Flower of the Month” competition too.
- Our main fundraiser is a stall at the annual Stubbington Fayre on August Bank Holiday Monday – we found the basics such as jam and cakes do very well, although the rain last year put a bit of a damper on things – and we now have a tent large enough to accommodate a few chairs for a rest and a chat – come and see us there if you are too shy to just turn up at a meeting!
- We have a group which meets once a month to learn/brush up on sewing skills, plus a Knit and Natter group. We also have a book group . In June, as well as our regular meeting, we will have a Strawberry lunch in a Member’s Garden – delicious! In July, we meet at the Wheelhouse by the sea, just for a change ( and the fish & chips are good, delivered to us from the village..) Some of us have knitted jumpers for distribution by a Zimbabwe WI to orphanages in that country – we’ve also knitted some hats for servicement in Afghanistan (taking care not to use bright colours!)
- We also have our monthly “Lee Walk” which is a gentle stroll along the shore from The Shack to the nearest tea shop in Lee, where we stop for a coffee before making the return journey (Members who don’t have a car can be picked up in the village). We’ve also started going to 10 pin Bowling – where ‘Primetimers’ over 50 get free tea and biccies – we do love a bargain.
- We belong to the Haven Group of WIs and take part in the Skittles tournament and General Knowledge Quiz (No, we don’t usually win – but it’s fun taking part!)
- Please get in touch or come along if you are interested in joining us – we’d love to have you.
