We meet at 7.30pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the Methodist Church Hall in Mays Lane, Stubbington, except for July, when we will be in The Wheelhouse in Salterns Road, Hillhead.
Ours is a fairly small group of almost 40 members, some of whom are founder members from 1983. We are a friendly bunch, and we give a warm welcome to visitors. We have a varied and interesting programme each year.
Most months we have a competition related to our speaker’s subject, and a “Flower of the Month” competition too.
Our main fundraiser is a stall at the annual Stubbington Fair on Bank Holiday Monday. We sell jam, chutney, cakes, and biscuits, with members taking turns to look after the stall. Come along and see us there if you would like to join us.
We have several member-led groups which meet once a month, including “Knit, Natter and Stitch”, Book Club and a group that meet to play board games. In June, as well as our regular meeting, we have a “Strawberry Lunch” in a member’s garden. In July we meet at The Wheelhouse to enjoy an afternoon at the beach and a fish and chip supper.
We also have our monthly “Lee Stroll”, which is a gentle walk along the seafront from The Shack to a café in Lee on the Solent, where we stop for a coffee before the return journey. Members who do not have a car can be picked up in the village.
We belong to the Strawberry Fields group of local WIs, and we usually take part in the skittles and darts tournaments and the general knowledge quiz.
During lockdown we have continued to have meetings via Zoom and have met up outside at Stokes Bay. We have made sure that we have stayed in touch with our members and kept the WI going.
If you would like to join us, please get in touch – we would love to meet you.
