We are a very friendly and enthusiastic WI and we meet on the third Tuesday of every month (except August) in Shawford Parish Hall, SO21 2AA commencing promptly at 2.00 p.m.
Our WI was formed in 1971 and meetings were held in the Reeves Scout hut at Compton. There was already a WI called Compton and Shawford so in order to avoid any confusion it was decided to call the new WI `REEVES COMPTON’ . As membership increased eventually meetings were moved to Shawford Parish Hall where we continue to meet.
Meetings usually begin with a speaker followed by a break and refreshments and then the afternoon finishes with the latest WI news and topics.
During the year, we enjoy a varied programme of topics, (full details below) an outing or two, theatre and cinema visits, a New Year lunch, and summer cream tea.
We try to participate in all County events. Several of our members have attended courses at the WI’s own college, at Denman in Oxfordshire.
You could be interested in our Institute walking Group. Members, friends and family meet to join Hu on one of his well-researched walks. Hu continues to organise walks so that members can keep fit whilst exploring the countryside. You could do worse than join us! If walking is not your scene come and meet us for the pub lunch. We also have a craft group which meets once a month, all levels and interests and enthusiams catered for – contact Beryl.
Reeves Compton belongs to the Twyford Group of WI’s which offers 2 group meetings per year and very competitive quiz and skittle evenings! In the summer there is a coffee morning and in December we gather together for a Christmas Celebration.
The annual subscription includes current issues of the WI magazine WI Life and at least 11 meetings per year. 2020 subscription £43.00 full member £21.10 dual member.
