About our WI
Ashurst WI was formed in 1962 and with 36 members from a mixed age range, we celebrate and learn about all that our local area, in the beautiful New Forest, has to offer.
As well as our monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, we enjoy theatre visits and outings to places of interest. We are also lucky enough to have enthusiastic members who run a range of Group Meetings such as Beading and Creative Crafts, a New Forest Show Group and for those green fingered amongst us, a Gardening Group. More cerebral activities are facilitated through our wonderful Book Club and for those who desire something more energetic, the Walking Group undertakes 2 walks a month of approximately 5 miles length. All of these, enhance our friendship and support of one another.
We like to set ourselves challenges each month during our meetings, whether that be creating a Christmas decoration from a bit of cardboard packaging, bringing in an interesting item related to the speaker’s subject or guessing our younger selves from old photos, which many members enter.
Hospitality is significant to us as well and we pride ourselves on giving a warm welcome to new members and visitors from local WI groups, whilst making time to chat to one another and care for each others welfare. We have also linked up with the local church group to provide lunches and social time for those who find it difficult, for whatever reason, to get out and about in our local community.
Our usual meeting place is the Church Rooms, Deerleap Lane, Colbury, Southampton, SO40 7EH, at 7.30 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. However, up until end of June 2022, we will meet at Hanger Farm, Aikman Lane, West Totton, SO40 8FT. Disabled parking and access to the building available.
