Welcome to North Waltham WI. We meet in the Rathbone Pavilion on Cuckoo Meadow on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm.
North Waltham WI is NOT: stuffy, old fashioned, cliquey, fogey, boring, silly, nostalgic, out of touch, comical, past its time…
We are a very friendly bunch of ladies of varying ages and it definitely isn’t a requirement that you need to be able to cook, knit, be crafty, etc, to come along – some of our members can but there are many who can’t!!
If you join North Waltham WI you will:
- Meet a range of incredibly friendly and interesting women
- Gain an instant support group of women with huge experience and skills
- Challenge yourself with exposure to, and genuine influence on, all kinds of political issues, often before they appear in the national media
- Enjoy some truly entertaining speakers
- Develop your social conscience and enjoy active (but not time-consuming) ways of improving lives
- Gain access to a vast range of things to do: courses, outings, parties, events… all friendly, well-run and sometimes discounted!
- Learn that all WIs are different, but that the North Waltham branch is superbly run with great humour
We have an exciting programme of events planned for 2017/2018.
Be involved as much or as little as you wish… come just to hear the talks… or go for it with a range of activities as wide as it’s possible to be.
All of this is entirely YOUR choice
If you are not a member of the WI you are more than welcome to come along to any of our meetings if a particular topic interests you or you would just like a night out (there is a small charge of £3.00 for guests to cover refreshments).
The programme for 2017/2018 is:
Skittles and supper at The Red Lion in Overton.
Guest and partners are welcome.
This will be an easy-going evening with plenty of time to enjoy strawberries and cream on, hopefully, a warm summer evening.
Please remember to bring a chair, bowl, spoon and glass.
|August||Summer break – no meeting|
The Seven Ages of Women
Fiona Birchall will tell stories relating to The Seven Ages of Women. This will not be a serious evening, quite the opposite!!!
The work of the RNLI
Caroline Tilly will speak about the wonderful work of the RNLI. This will be a great insight as to how many rescues are done each year.
|9 November||Sarah Talents will tell us about a retirement home for polo ponies – a charity helping blind people to ride.||Sarah Talents|
|14 December||John Pitman will talk about his role as Dame in pantomime for 33 years. This promises to be a very good evening and may include audience participation. Should be fun!||John Pitman|
|11 January 2018||
Victoria has a boutique in Basingstoke selling stunning genuine vintage clothing and an amazing collection of reproduction clothes. Remember the net waist slips stiffened with sugar water to keep them full under skirts or dresses? Brings back memories!
The Sewing Soldier
Lt Col Neil Stace will talk about Army life including tours of duty in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Afghanistan, and his sewing, which he started whilst at school.
This will be an open meeting.
Our 82nd Birthday Party
Trisha Lewis will bring a sense of fun and Joyce Grenfell style observation to the 1960s story characters of the WI she discovered in the archives.
Life as a Refugee in England from Guernsey during German Rule
This is a return visit for John Richards who spoke to us in October 2016 on Life under German Rule in Guernsey in WW2. This will be a follow up talk.
This will be an open meeting.
Resolution Evening and AGM
Following the business we will have a chance to chat over a cuppa.
