The WI offers women the opportunity of sharing friendship and learning new skills.
We aim to help widen horizons and together to influence local, national and even international affairs.
Our membership stands at 52 and, because of the restraints of our meeting hall, we have agreed a limit of 55. However we often welcome visitors to share the friendship and fun of our meetings.
We meet at The Church Rooms, 154 Main Road, Colden Common, SO21 1TJ. From 7.15pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month. At monthly meetings we have a varied mix of interesting speakers and demonstrators. We also enjoy many other social activities including:Short rambles & regular outings; Darts & Skittles; Crafty sessions; Knit n’ Natter; Charity events; Competitions & Quizs. Our Darts team train on thursday lunchtimes and reached the county finals in 2012 and 2013 winning in 2015. Our Skittles and Quiz teams continue to do well in group events. Regular theatre trips are organised, as are 5 – 6 mile walks. For these trips we use the village mini bus to reach venues and we are always grateful to Geoff Naylor for organising walks and driving the bus for us.
QUEEN BEE PROJECT
Colden Common WI has had a Bee Hive for a while and now the new Bee Keepers Debbie & Paul Harding are keeping a Blog on their progress. Please see attached link to their Blog. https://brambridge.wordpress.com/
We are fully involved in the local community and take an active part in Village Life. We have planted poppy seeds along verges to commemorate 100 years since the start of WW1. Our colourful stalls at the Village Fete, Apple Fest and Winter Fayre raise much needed funds for our WI Projects. We support many different charities including Breast Cancer Care, Macmillan Nurses, Andean medical mission, The Alzheimer’s Society and ACWW(Associated Country Women of the World)
