Charlton WI is a busy group of approximately 80 ladies with varying interests who meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm for approximately two hours in St Thomas’ Church, Charlton. We have a variety of thriving groups covering Art, Craft, Book Club, Lunch Club and a Walking Group who all meet regularly during the month. We are currently setting up a Walking Netball group for members and friends. We regularly attend theatre shows in London, Southampton, Basingstoke and Andover where transport is often included in the trip. In the past year we have seen Kinky Boots, Blood Brothers and the King & I plus several local performances at The Lights in Andover. We are currently looking forward to Calendar Girls, 9 – 5 and the Dick Whittington pantomime. We have an annual summer outing in July and this year we went to Hampton Court with a Thames boat trip. We had an additional evening outing this summer which was a horse drawn barge trip from Kintbury. We sometimes have a winter outing in December, last year to see the lanterns and light shows at Longleat. There are also other opportunities that arise where neighbouring WIs invite us to attend their trips and events. We also like to attend Hampshire Federation WI events like the Spring and Autumn Council Meetings in Portsmouth and Basingstoke, and participate in the HCFWI (Hampshire County Federation WI) Quizzes, Skittles and Darts competitions, and most recently the WI Festival in Eastleigh where we had a stall. Being part of the Anton and Danebury Group of WIs, Charlton members also have the opportunity to attend twice yearly events at Weyhill Fairground where you will meet members of other WIs enjoying some exceptional speakers. Ad hoc events are added into the activities participated in by our members such as, additional local theatre trips, Speaker Selection days, an annual lunch and evening outings etc. These activities are in addition to all that the HCFWI has to offer.
Due to our venue restriction, we are currently at our maximum membership number. If you would like to go on the short waiting list for membership please contact our WI Secretary. Pre-membership visits are always welcome with prior notice of a visit to the WI Secretary.
