About our WI
Ashurst WI was formed in 1962 and with 55 members from a mixed age range we celebrate and learn about all that our local area, in the beautiful New Forest, has to offer. As well as our monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, we enjoy pub lunches, theatre visits and plenty of outings to places of interest. We are also lucky enough to have enthusiastic members who run a range of Group Meetings such as Beading, Knitting & Crochet, Stitching Plus, a New Forest Craft Team and for those green fingered amongst us, a Gardening Group. More cerebral activities are facilitated through our wonderful Book Club and for those who desire something more energetic, the Ashurst Darts Team meets regularly for practices and competitions against local WI groups. All of these, enhance our friendship and support of one another.
We are passionate about the WI campaigns too and recently we appreciated the chance to discuss one of the latest Federation resolutions about loneliness, an issue that matters to us. Very quickly, our WI has linked up with the local church group to provide lunches and social time for those who find it difficult, for whatever reason, to get out and about in our local community.
Being quite a crafty group we like to set ourselves creative challenges each month during our meetings, whether that be creating a christmas decoration from a bit of cardboard packaging, taking an inspirational photo or compiling a collage, we are always interested and motivated by one others’ work.
Hospitality is significant to us as well and we pride ourselves on giving a warm welcome to new members and visitors from local WI groups whilst also making time to chat to one another and care for one anothers’ welfare.
Our meeting place is the Church Rooms, Deerleap Lane, Colbury, Southampton, SO40 7EH, at 7.30 pm on the second Wednesday of each month, except August when we have a garden meeting. Disabled parking and access to the building available.
